The University has created three new part-time vice-provost positions. Provost Kristina Johnson made the appointments as an effort made to improve communications between her office and other parts of the University.

Scott Zeger from the Bloomberg School of Public Health has been appointed vice provost for research, Michela Gallagher from the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences has been appointed vice provost for academic affairs and Jonathan Bagger, also from Arts and Sciences, was named vice provost for graduate and postdoctoral programs and special projects.

Johnson has also called for the creation of the Provost's Advisory Committee, to be chaired by Michael Hanchard, a professor of political science. She hopes the committee will further bolster her connections to the faculty.

Zeger, Gallagher and Bagger will each spend one-third of their time at their home schools and the rest of the time in the University's office of academic affairs. Their first terms will begin on March 1 of this year and last until June 30, 2011.
